The previous weekend we had thought of cancelling this trip because of high water levels, but with dry weather throughout the week it was on. Four of us had done the trip before, so route finding wasn't going to be a problem!
We entered the cave at 10:30 (ish). The first 3 metres inside the entrance is perhaps the most unpleasant bit of the whole trip; it smells as if something has died there. Once past that, it was quickly down through the wet bits to the short pitch. Here I rigged the short ladder I had brought, to the howls of derision from my mates. Then we were off into the big stuff. We had a fairly uneventful trip until we reached the "Squirrel Rifts" where, despite four of us having been through there before, we managed to convince ourselves that we were on the wrong track. Back we went to "St Davids Hall", then retraced our steps to reach the same point we had been at 40 minutes earlier. A bit more faffing about, and we discovered that we had turned around the first time about 20 metres short of the "Connection". We won't make that mistake again will we?
Now we were off down the "Agent Blorenge" streamway, which I think is the best bit of the cave (that I've seen). The rock sculpture is brilliant. The "Sewer" was suitably unpleasant. We reached the confluence with the "Beyond A Choke" streamway at 5 o'clock and headed upstream; to finally exit the cave at 6:30.
About 8 hours caving, which was an hour longer than we had hoped for. I put it down to age and senility.
Here are a few pictures;
