Digging trip. A fair bit of digging needed after the summer floods to get back in... but a useful trip.
Not an official RFDCC trip, but Mandie, Ade and Nicky went to Ogof Draenen with the aim of getting to War of the Worlds. None of us had been there before, so we were fully armed with half a survey, a convoluted description, and the immortal advice of Andy Harp: "you can't go wrong - just follow your nose"
Actually, this advice proved to be a lot easier to follow that the written description we had!
Myself and Mandie had recently been in as far as the Windy Way, so that part of the trip was fairly straightforward. We went on from there through the gypsum encrusted passages to find the snowball, which is incredibly just like one. Then the washing machine, which wasn't like one at all. On to the Reactor, where we took a detour down to the bottom to look at the strange blue crystals in the split rock, and eventually got to the War of the Worlds junction just as we hit our latest turn around time. A joint decision was reached, and we headed off up to Sendero Luminoso with the intention of being a little faster on the way out, so not incurring a call out, which would have had many people in a panic due to the fact that Mandie was 4.5 months pregnant.
A quick bite to eat, and a run down the WOW south for a glimpse of the sparkles, and then we made a hasty retreat,
Getting out an hour before call-out, and even better, still in time for a beer! The trip took us about 11 hours, and has inspired us now to go to the Dollimores, which Mandie assures us is an easier trip... anyone care to join us?
